Faculty of Business and Law new workplace
Client: aru Faculty of Business and Law
Architect: Tiziana Mori
Project value: £ 950.000
The Faculty of Business and Law requested the creation of a new office space and an area was identified in Sawyers first floor which was a teaching areas not much in used. The layout presented a typical corridor with classrooms on one side which is still visible on the proposed layout but with a change of use and a different configuration for the office and meeting rooms.
The intention was to keep part of the corridor wall as in concrete blocks and to create around it the meeting rooms, rooms which need less natural light compare to the office space.
The access to the new office is through a large reception where initial informal meetings with students can take place in booths or on soft seating or around the table. From reception you access the Gallery, the workstations area where each workbench is screened behind tambour units to define the corridor line and the workspace itself and allow some privacy to the staff. From the Gallery you can access 4 meeting rooms, all with glazed partitions towards the Gallery to get indirect natural light. At the end of the Gallery you enter the Hub area with a high table for informal meetings and the printer centre and on the opposite side, the kitchen with the seating area.
I created a central area between the Gallery and Riverview which is a central `square` with soft seating and lockers, a connection to the Riverview space with various types of soft seating, sofas and single seat armchairs.
